A woman who was charged with attempting to kill her husband will on Thursday know if she will be released on bond.

Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga on Wednesday said he would give his verdict on an application by the prosecution for Bilha Mwangi and her three accomplices to be denied bond and bail.

Bilha, her brother Peter Gakungi, sister Lucy Mwangi, and Jimmy Waititu were arraigned in a packed court on Wednesday.

Mr Waititu’s status came under scrutiny with State Counsel Daniel King’ori claiming he was Bilha's lover while defence lawyer Shadrack Mwinzi said he was just an employee.

Bilha and Lucy were arrested on June 22 after police set a trap for them, claiming they were hitmen hired to assassinate Joseph Muraya Mwangi.

In his application, Mr King’ori said Bilha had made a down payment of Sh100,000 to the would-be assassins.

“Is this the person the court wants to release on bail?” he asked.

The four were charged that on June 22 this year, at Mowlen estate in Nairobi’s Embakasi, with others not before the court, they planned the murder of Mr Muraya.

They also faced an alternative charge of conspiring to kill the complainant.
