White House Communications Director Mike Dubke resigns

White House Director of Communications Mike Dubke has resigned, just three months after his appointment.

Mr Dubke, 47, quit on May 18 but offered to stay through President Donald Trump’s overseas trip.

GOOD TERMS

Political website Axios news reported that the Republican strategist is “leaving on good terms and that his last day of going to work had not been set yet”.

The news site said President Trump was considering more changes, including the possibility of bringing in David Urban, who was a senior adviser on the campaign, as chief of staff.

President Trump has reportedly been frustrated with White House messaging in the wake of FBI investigations into whether his campaign officials colluded with Kremlin operatives to help him win the presidency.

CHANGES

He recently made several changes in how communication is conducted at the White House. Some of the changes included abolishing the daily news briefings and instead holding briefs himself after every two weeks and allowing Press Secretary Sean Spicer to hold fewer on-camera briefings.

The White House is yet to name Mr Dubke’s successor, although speculation is rife that Corey Lewandowski, former campaign manager for Mr Trump, could take over.

Mr Lewandowski and David Bossie, another top official from Mr Trump’s campaign, met the president at the White House on Monday.
