IDPs from Kisii were not compensated. When others were compensated? Were Kisii’s compensated? - Mr Kalonzo Musyoke, Leader, Wiper Democratic Movement, at a rally in Kisii on March 26, 2017.

According to a 2016 report by Haart Kenya, there are at least 17,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled to Kisii County after the 2007-2008 violence. According to reporting from the Daily Nation, which places the refugees in Kisii and Nyamira at 1,5000, a compensation framework had been created in March this year.

In late 2016, the Chairman of the National Coordination Consultative Committee on IDPs, Mr Adan Wachu, said the government had completed its work on IDPs in camps and was now moving to integrated IDPs. On March 25 this year, President Kenyatta visited Kisii County and noted that IDPs from the post-election violence would be compensated in April.

There are still no reports of any of the integrated IDPs in Kisii and Nyamira being compensated,  even if  the government appears to be working to accomplish the resettlement. Unless that changes Mr Musyoka’s claim is true.
