From the World Indoors Championships last week in the USA, athletics action shifts to the World Half Marathon Championships that go down on Sunday in Cardiff, Wales.
Kenya hopes to atone for the dismal performance at the World Indoors, where the country got two bronze medals. Pressure will be on the team that is led by legendary Catherine “The Great” Ndereba to retain both individual titles.
They also seek to retain women’s team crown as well as to recapture the men’s team title that went to Eritrea during the 2014 World Half Marathon in Copenhagen.
The Kenyan women set the benchmark when they swept the top five places, led by Gladys Cherono, in Copenhagen. Even though Cherono is missing in action this time, Kenya still has a strong squad.
As we wish Team Kenya the best of luck, they must be cautious of the challenge that awaits them from rivals Ethiopia and Eritrea.
