In the wake of a series of grenade attacks in public places, the police often unable to predict when such attacks are likely to occur.
By their very nature, acts of terror are impossible to foretell, and the security forces are clairvoyant.
All the same, the police and other security agencies are our only shield, and they must wake up to the reality that Kenya is facing a lot of internal security problems.
Threats are coming, not only from Al-Shabaab militia, but also from the Mombasa Republican Council which wants the Coast region to secede from Kenya citing some pre-independence treaty, while the Mungiki and other extortionist bands are said to be regrouping.
There is no doubt that frequent cases of grenade attacks will affect tourism and keep away foreign investors. Kenyans are wondering whether it is the lack of manpower or intelligence that has led to such uncertainty and to threats to security and stability.
It is worth noting that, in general, the police have done their best to contain criminal elements in this country. But still, they can do a lot more if they embraced reforms in an attempt to win back the confidence of Kenyans.
