Parties’ injustices shocking

ODM executive director Magerer Langat’s humiliation by goons at a meeting attended by his own bosses is perhaps the lowest the organisation has ever sunk.

By manhandling a top official before the very eyes of their own party leader, Mr Raila Odinga, the attackers, indeed, demonstrated that they have no respect for him, too.

For a party still smarting from the shame of the violent disruption of its national elections several months ago, this is yet another major blow to its image.

Ironically, these parties never tire of demanding greater freedoms and democratisation. As the saying goes, charity begins at home.

If parties, as grassroots organisations, can nurture a culture of fairness and tolerance, it will be easier to replicate nationally.
