Resolve ills in athletics

What you need to know:

The officials have been accused of stealing Sh70 million.

Lawyer Sharad Rao has the herculean task of investigating Athletics Kenya former president Isaiah Kiplagat, vice-president David Okeyo, and Eastern branch chairman Joseph Kinyua, who have been suspended for their alleged involvement in corruption and doping cover-up.

The investigations could change the face of athletics in Kenya because Nike and the Qatar Athletics Federation are involved.

The officials have been accused of stealing Sh70 million, while Mr Kiplagat and Athletics Kenya have also been accused of taking bribes to vote in favour of Doha to host the 2019 World Championships.

The officials are also accused of subverting the anti-doping control process in Kenya.

These are serious allegations, especially coming at this time when doping among Kenyan athletes is on the rise.

More than 40 Kenyan athletes have been banned in the past three years for using banned substances.

This is an opportune time for Athletics Kenya, stakeholders, and the government to address the issue of doping.

The public demands to know the culprits behind this menace. Those found to have been involved in criminal activity must be held accountable. We must save our athletics.
