Terrorists will always be a step ahead of security agents due to corruption

What you need to know:

  • Whenever a robbery happens, two things are guaranteed: either the thief with the money manages to get away “under hail of bullets” (and hospitals warned a badly bleeding thief would be knocking on their doors soon) or the thieves manage to get away before the police get there.
  • The bus that was attacked was allowed to detach from the convoy and speed ahead, alone, unguarded. Were the police bribed by Al Shabaab to deliver the “kaffirs” for slaughter?
  • Our police are very dangerous. Many victims nowadays say they organise robberies. Look at what happens on our roads. Two weeks ago I was flagged down for speeding above limits by 12 km/hr... even though they did not have the equipment.

The Al Shabaab terror organisation is replicating Islamic State of Iraq and Levante (ISIL) killing methods. They kill all non-Sunni people including fellow Muslims, by shooting them from behind as they lie prostrate on the ground.

The Mandera killings where 28 non-Muslims were killed in the same manner confirms that Al Shabaab will replicate ISIL worst atrocities even though it was disowned by Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda for excessive brutality and savagery.

Al Shabaab adherents would be treated the same way by ISIL were they to come face to face — shot from behind by their role models.

DEPUTY PRESIDENT

Deputy President William Ruto, currently stepping in for the President who is away on official business in the Gulf, said that KDF had carried out retaliatory attacks and killed over 100 Al Shabaab.

Who counted the bodies? This statement by DP William Ruto needs further substantiation. Can KDF prove they took out the killers? These cock-and-bull stories by government only anger the public.

Never mind that our corrupt police are supposed to fight people trained by battle hardened Al Qaeda. Our policemen and women are badly trained, badly equipped, badly fed, badly paid and poorly motivated. And therefore highly corrupt.

The police are not corrupt because they are born that way. It is the structure and policies within which they operate. Al-Shabaab knows all this because even after NIS and Mandera governor shared intelligence of the impeding attacks, the police conveniently ignored it.

However let us not be in a hurry to blame our officers. The way government is organised is the cause of corruption and inefficiency. Budget is tilted towards pilferage and wastage by key civil servants — Sh300 billion annually as documented by Kenya National Audit Office . The policemen know this. In a nutshell President Kenyatta has to reform the civil service and the police simultaneously.
