Extorting money in the name of music piracy laws

Posted  Sunday, September 5  2010 at  20:33

A gang calling itself Music Piracy is soliciting money from the public in Mombasa and the environs.

They hire a taxi and a man in full police uniform, carrying a gun. They target entertainment spots and storm mostly bars on their extortion sprees.

They then take away all CDs, lock up the pub and frog-march the attendant to an unmarked station wagon believed to be a taxi.

Workers are detained for hours but not entered in the Occurrence Book. Sh10,000 is the gang’s preferred starting point in the extortion racket.
