The article titled Kenya’s drug-peddling women waste away in far-away jails in last week’s edition of the Sunday Nation brought to the open the sad tale of underworld trafficking.

Young women in Nairobi’s Huruma area have been used to traffic drugs for decades. The area has been major a recruiting ground for drug traffickers.

Even though most inhabitants of Huruma are poor, those targeted by the trafficking community are those who were born and raised there.

The mothers, who are part of the underworld trade, have handed the baton to their daughters who have come of age. While their mothers may have been lucky to escape the long arm of the law, their daughters have not.
