I appreciate IEBC’s commitment to ensure Kenyans in the Diaspora participate in the elections.
However, in an advertisement in the Nation, registration officers and voter registration clerks in the Diaspora are to be paid daily $100 and $60 respectively, with no other benefits except an economy air ticket and ground transport where necessary.
The amount is just too low and they will be lucky if they get these officials, patriotism not withstanding. The minimum wage here is $7.25 so eight hours daily makes $58 before taxes.
The amount being offered cannot even pay for a cheap hotel room, which averages $45 a night. The officials should revise the rates.
