Keep pigs out of fight with MPs

On Tuesday, we witnessed pigs being subjected to cruel punishment outside the precincts of Parliament and under the watchful eyes of law enforcers.

While the civil rights activists had every right to demonstrate against MPs’ clamour for higher pay and fatter perks, they were wrong to use live animals.

The pigs were traumatised by the alien environment, the shouting and being herded by baton-wielding policemen who first choked them with teargas. The hours in the hot sun must have been torture because they don’t have sweat glands.

Mistreating animals is punishable under the law and anybody harbouring similar ideas should stand warned.
