Kenya can host African matches to grow sports

While I support the editorial “Let us develop sports” (Nation, January 26), I am compelled to add that sports is in the doldrums because of lack of political will.

Kenya hosted both the 4th All Africa Games (comprising many disciplines) and Africa Athletics Championships successfully.

These games are of the magnitude of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). So why hasn’t Kenya hosted the tournament?

In 1996 the country was supposed to host it but withdrew, citing lack of stadia and other excuses. South Africa then hosted the tournament.

I still believe if Kenya seriously wants to host the tournament it can do so.
