Listen to teachers’ pleas since they face danger

It’s sad that the government threatens to lay off Mandera teachers instead of listening to their pleas.

First, is the low pay which makes them go on strike every now and then, and now the death threats.

The Al-Shabaab threat is as real as the threats facing teachers from area politicians. How can 28 of your colleagues be killed then somebody insists that you use the same route.

These teachers are parents, wives, husbands and children of other people. And we all know that in case of death, the government’s promises to compensate families never materialise, and the only money they might get is during the burial.

The teachers are in a hostile environment, being called unholy.
