The move by MPs to award themselves a hefty gratuity amid insufficient funds for the free learning programmes shows how our leaders are getting their priorities wrong.

The education sector urgently needs to be revived but if the lawmakers go ahead with their selfish move, this cannot be achieved and learners will suffer.

Our politicians should not be guided by the maxim ‘It is our turn to eat’ and do so at the expense of millions of Kenyans who are struggling to eke out a living.

When will they start being concerned about the welfare of ordinary Kenyans?
