The Ministry of Health sent a request to herbalists to make proposals on how they would like the sector run in a devolved healthcare system (Nation, April 9).

But where and how are these herbal concoctions prepared? Talking to many herbalists, they say that they cannot reveal the ingredients of their produce, citing the top secrecy of their formulae.

The other thing is the standard of hygiene. Some use dirty paraphernalia to make concoctions that are nonetheless, sold like hot cakes. Grey areas must be addressed for the herbs to be fit for human consumption.
