As things stand now, all an MP needs is literacy in English and Kiswahili, possibly the level possessed by a primary school graduate.

Legislation is important, and requires that one is able to comprehend issues elaborately before they can debate competently.

Obviously, this requires higher academic qualifications, not just the mere ability to read and write in two languages. To me, a post-secondary qualification would suffice.

Education is important for proper analysis of issues and ability to debate and differ with decorum.
