On Friday, we marked 49 years since we attained self-rule after being under the British. Jomo Kenyatta became the first president in 1964.

It is painful that we are counting years and not development. It is high time we stopped counting years and focus on developing our country.

Madaraka Day has been turned into a time to display what various government organs have. This day should, instead, see us come together and celebrate what we have achieved.

It is sad that most of the wishes of the freedom fighters have not yet been fulfilled. Those who are still alive are languishing in poverty.
