The opinion piece entitles “The Link between women’s dressing and immorality exists only in men’s imagination” (Nation, July 27) made interesting reading.

Once I had told a TV reporter: “For you people if a mzungu lady runs on the streets nude you would rush with cameras because it is considered high fashion.

But women living with birthday suits in the jungles of Amazon are considered primitive. Why this double standard?” He was at a loss for words.

Culture is changing. Some 200 years ago, barring perhaps the coastal area, nobody spoke or wrote in English in Kenya.

Together with the arrival of a European language social and cultural changes were set in motion. With that came in the licence to do anything.

Earlier even if women wore only a piece of skin nobody molested or raped them. In one island of the Philippines, women go around topless.

The apparel for the middle part is made of some creepers twisted around. Knowing one another contributed to social control.

Furthermore there is bombardment of sexual stimulus more than maybe 40 years ago. Media and ICT are abetting it manifold.

Sexual stimulus everywhere brews in the heads of humans and that tension looks for release somehow, somewhere.

Very often innocent persons are the victims. Crimes against women young innocent girls in particular are despicable.
