When angry lovers, believing they’re wronged, decide to take revenge…

What you need to know:

  • Sources close to Rachel said she had been misinformed that Chris had cheated on her and she wanted revenge.
  • Medical experts said that last year, 457 people died waiting for a transplant, including 14 children.

Wise old William Shakespeare said it first: “The course of true love never did run smooth.” If you doubted it, you just had to read last week’s newspapers.

First, the girlfriend and the millionaire.

According to the prosecutor at Newcastle magistrates’ court, David Taylor, 54, took his partner, Hannah Brookes, to a pub on the quayside of the River Tyne to celebrate his birthday.

INFIDELITY

However, they quarrelled and Hannah stormed out.

Later Taylor spotted her getting onto a £450,000 luxury vessel, named Coco, which belonged to millionaire Michael Hay.

Assuming an affair was taking place, Taylor, the prosecutor said, cut the boat’s moorings and set it adrift.

Then he did the same to a second vessel belonging to Taylor, the £100,000 Vortex.

Unmanned, it crashed and bumped along the quay wall as it drifted.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Hay got the Coco under control, but police, firefighters and port officials were called to secure the runaway Vortex.

In court, when asked why he thought Taylor would cut the ropes, Hay replied, “He believed I was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.”

Taylor denied two counts of causing criminal damage totalling £13,000.

He told police he had seen the pair engaging in a sex act, which they denied, but said he had loosened the ropes accidentally.

He was released on bail to appear on October 5.

STAG PARTY
Then there was the bridegroom who let his fiancée organise his stag party, only for everyone to be abandoned at the airport.

The plan was for Chris Mahone and 30 of his mates to fly to Ibiza for four days.

They paid Chris’s partner, Rachel Dorans, £440 each, but when they arrived at Leeds airport, they found they were not booked on the Ibiza flight and the boarding passes Rachel had given them were forgeries.

When Chris returned to the home they shared, he found Rachel had gone and there was no sign of the £13,000 the party-goers had paid her.

REVENGE
Sources close to Rachel said she had been misinformed that Chris had cheated on her and she wanted revenge.

A relative told The Sun newspaper: “She heard he had cheated on her when he hadn’t. She must have been planning her revenge for months, maybe a year.”

Chris apologised to his friends, saying: “Words cannot describe the pain and feelings that are playing with my head today. I totally want to apologise to all my fantastic mates.”

It was not immediately clear if the police would be involved in the situation.

Most painful read in the media concerned the father who lay in a drunken sleep as the family dog mauled his baby son to death.

Ryan Young from Sunderland drank eight cans of lager before falling asleep at night in the absence of his partner.

He only woke when she returned and screamed on finding three-week-old Reggie, bloody and torn, on the floor.

DOG
It is believed the baby fell from his bouncer and the dog, a Lakeland cross terrier which had not been introduced to the new-born, saw the child as a threat.

The attack could have lasted some 20 minutes.

Reggie was still breathing when paramedics arrived, but died later.

CHILD NEGLECT

Photos on social media showed Young weeping as he carried his son in a tiny blue coffin at his funeral.

He also wept throughout proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, where he was charged with keeping a dangerous dog and child neglect.

Judge Tim Gittens said, “Reggie was subjected to a most dreadful, tortuous, confusing attack and he suffered horrific and painful injuries.”

He jailed Young for 21 months.

To end on a sad but more positive note… a 13-year-old girl who died from a brain aneurysm has saved the lives of eight people.

Jemima Layzell donated her heart, pancreas, lungs, kidneys, liver and small bowel.

Medical experts said no other donor had helped as many people. The average donation results in 2.6 transplants.

ORGAN DONOR
Jemima collapsed during preparations for her mother’s 38th birthday party and died four days later.

Her parents, Sophy and Harvey, said they knew their daughter was a willing donor because they had spoken about it a couple of weeks before her death after someone they knew died in a crash.

“Jemima had never heard of organ donation before and found it a little bit unsettling, but totally understood the importance of it,” her mother said.

Medical experts said that last year, 457 people died waiting for a transplant, including 14 children.

Now back to the nitty-gritty:

Wife after a quarrel: “I was a fool when I married you.”

Husband: “Yes, dear, but I was in love and I didn’t notice.”

Husband: “Why do you keep reading our marriage licence?”

Wife: “I’m looking for a loophole.”

I never knew what happiness was until I got married, and then it was too late.

The best way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once.
