The youth must know that they matter

What you need to know:

  • Many of our young people are without hope, demoralised, defeated, discouraged and depressed to the point where they are suicidal and giving up.
  • Corruption is rampant in our society, Unemployment is a real problem, no role models to look up to and when they come out of high school, college or university, there is no guarantee for a job or career.
  • In many ways, our young people are set up to fall for the traps of apathy and hopelessness if not guided, mentored, encouraged and inspired.

Many of our young people are without hope, demoralised, defeated, discouraged and depressed to the point where they are suicidal and giving up.

There is a lot of discontentment, disappointment, hopelessness and loneliness.

They look at the world around them, and see no hope for the future. There is unrest and war throughout the world.

Corruption is rampant in our society, Unemployment is a real problem, no role models to look up to and when they come out of high school, college or university, there is no guarantee for a job or career.

The message or feedback from most of the youth is they seem to have no goal to work towards in life. Many turn to drinking, drugs and partying. They have a lot of pressure from family members, from school, from peers — all asking the same question: What are you going to do with your life?

Add to this the constant barrage of societal pressures of being a teenager — binge drinking, relationships and sex, drugs and simply maintaining a cool reputation.
In many ways, our young people are set up to fall for the traps of apathy and hopelessness if not guided, mentored, encouraged and inspired.

This is because most of them look forward to growing up, finding their career in life, getting married and raising a family and having great fulfilment in life.
Our young people need a message of hope, one that says “You matter”.

RIPE FOR LEADERSHIP

The victory of Mr Nick Mwendwa as the FKF president shows that the youth are ripe for leadership, they just need to be cultivated, mentored, inspired and given an opportunity to lead this great nation to greater heights.

Let’s hold hands together to support, encourage and mentor the youths, they are the assets and foundation of our nation!
My advice to youths of Kenya is: Believe in yourself.
What you confess is what you possess! If you confess success, you will get success. If you confess failure, that’s what is in store for you!

Life is like a mirror: It’ll smile at you if you smile at it. Be positive and get encouraged that you too can make it!

Take personal responsibility for who you are, what you do and how you live. You are the only person who knows what is best for you.

Most of us youths get opportunities, but we get so comfortable when we get on the opportunity that we end up wasting time rather than using it to change our lives.

We often feel, ‘this is it’; ‘We have made it’; ‘We can relax’ and we forget that it’s only the beginning.

We digress from our original vision, want to upgrade our standard of living, let everyone know that we have a new car, new girlfriend or wife, a new job or promotion and share with all and sundry that we won a particular tender.

INJECT MORE EFFORT

Do not be carried away. You need to inject more effort into your work output rather than in your celebration if you want to keep scaling higher and higher.

Great opportunities don’t come every day; recognise and seize them with every chance you get so that you can keep attracting more and more.

You have a greater goal to achieve and being swayed by the ‘little’ you get right now is not it. Success makes success; the little you have can help you get more.
Don’t sit and wait thinking help is coming ... it is not!

The government will not make a public announcement appointing you while you are seated waiting for another day to pass.

You are the key to getting that success and acquiring wealth.

Once you get it, manage it and look at what you can do to get much more for the future. Work not only for today, but also for tomorrow.

Adapt an “I can” attitude! The way you think, day in, day out, affects all aspects of your life.

Learning to listen to your “internal dialogue” will help you recognise your thought patterns and how they may be affecting the way you handle the stressful situations of daily living.

Having a positive mental attitude will attract what you need to achieve your definite major purpose.

Life is about believing in yourself.
