Poll violence victims will one day haunt us

Rasna Warah’s article (Nation, October 13) was spot on. She is the second voice I’ve heard in recent weeks asking for justice for the victims of post election violence.

I attended a few “peace” sessions in Nakuru and Eldoret and noticed that the government made little effort to bring the communities together to chart a way forward.

I have been fortunate to have attended successful peace sessions in northern Kenya between the Rendille and Gabbra, where elders imposed heavy fines on anyone who violates the treaty.

Dowry was reduced by half (four camels now) to encourage inter-marriages. We cannot grow unless we address grievances of the past and find closure.
