A star-studded field of 70 cars and 40 motorcycles are expected to turn up at the Nairobi racecourse on Sunday at the 47th edition of the CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance.

The event will bring together the cream of Kenya-based competitors who will be facing strong opposition from a list of 31 foreign participants.

International Motorcycling Federation Africa vice president Clive Mawson is one of the high ranking foreigners set to grace this year’s event, as will past car winners Sati-Gata Aura, Diccon Wilcock and John Wroe.

Sati-Gata Aura is placing his hopes on his 1977 Nissan saloon and his glistening green 1947 MG TC sports car.

Diccon Wilcock is contesting the sports car class with his two tone blue 1952 MG TD and he will be driving his 1924 Railton along the judging line with the hope of winning the class of cars made in 1940, or earlier. John Wroe’s 1934 Rolls Royce Boatail is another potential class and overall winner.

Among the crowd pulling cars from outside Kenya are Kakooza Wazzir’s 1991 Mitsuoka le-Seyde and the 1974 Mercedes of Ronald Walusimbi. He was the overall winner in the Uganda equivalent of the Concours held earlier this year and in 2016 he took first place in the up to 2000cc touring car class at the Nairobi racecourse.

Dar es Salaam classic car enthusiast Shane Ramzanali is optimistic about the chances of his 1998 Ferrari Replica and a rare 1976 JPA Falcon Roadster which is a limited edition sports car made in Britain.

After the completion of judging there will be a grand parade of all the Concours cars and motorcycles which will precede the podium prize giving in front of the main grandstand. Following the presentation of awards, spectators will be treated to a fashion show in keeping with the competition’s spirit.
