Talented Kenya Pipeline attacker Asha Makuto will not feature for her team in the women’s African Club Volleyball Championships set for April 17 in Tunisia.

Makuto, who broke her left ankle during training a day before last year’s Kenya Volleyball Federation league play-off match against Nairobi Water, has said she will not travel for the competition to be held in Carthage, Tunisia, as she is still recuperating.

“I thought I would make it to the competition after undergoing surgery last November but the doctor has advised me to skip the tournament and continue with my physiotherapy sessions,” Makuto said Thursday.

PRISONS ARE CHAMPIONS

Pipeline will represent Kenya at the championship with defending champions Kenya prisons.

Kenya Prisons first choice setter Jane Wacu is also yet to link up with her team which started residential training earlier this week. Wacu left the country two weeks ago for trials in France and was expected in the country a few days ago.

“We have just started residential training and Wacu is expected to join the team later on in the week. We hope that the eight hours we are putting in for training will enable us to retain the title this time too,” said Joseph Baraza, Prisons assistant coach.

Prisons and Pipeline finished first and second respectively in the local league last season. African champions Prisons will be seeking to defending the title for the fourth successive time.

The teams will travel to Tunisia later next week where they will compete against other African clubs for a chance to represent Africa in the FIVB women’s club world championships in Brazil later this year.
