Charger, Chatthe renew rivalry in Machakos

  • Kirimi, who is the 2011 2WD champion, said he will be aiming to secure a podium finish in Machakos.

The sixth round of the KCB Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) will go down this weekend in Machakos County.

Defending champion Baldev Chager is expected to face stiff competition from familiar foes Ian Duncan and Jaspreet Chatthe, who is currently the man to beat in this year’s series.

After a good display in the Rwanda Rally at the weekend, the 27-year-old Chatthe is back home preparing for the KCB Machakos Rally which gets under way this Friday with the reconnaissance of the route. The rally proper starts on Saturday.

Rally driver James Kirimi, navigated by Evans Mwenda - in their trademark Subaru GC8 - have received a massive boost after AEA Limited unveiled a sponsorship deal for the duo.

The duo are currently on top of the S Class category chart following the last leg of the championship held in Eldoret.

AEA Managing-Director Nicholas Kithinji said the sponsorship was a step in the right direction for the development of the sport.

“We want to participate in the economic renaissance of this country by supporting enterprises and sports through innovation,” Kithinji said.
