Basketball league’s MVP tips Zetech for success

Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) women’s national league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Lucy Musyoki has tipped her team Zetech University Sparks to excel in next season’s Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women’s junior premier league.
Sparks beat Gladiators 3-0 in a best-of-five series to lift their maiden title as the curtain came down on the league last weekend to earn promotion to the top-flight junior league. Musyoki, who is also the team’s captain, played a pivotal role in her team’s success.

“We worked hard as a team and we have reaped the fruits. We want to take our good form to the next level but we know it won’t be easy,” Musyoki said.
Sparks won the first game 62-46 before taking the second 45-38 and went on win the third game 47-41 with Musyoki, playing as the team’s shooting-guard, leading the scoring charts in the three games.
Sparks exacted their revenge on Gladiators who had defeated them in the preliminaries.
Sparks coach Maurice Obilo, who also doubles up as the Zetech men’s basketball tactician, believes the team can make an impact in the league.
“Our target in our first season is to reach the play-offs and in our second year, we will set our sights on winning the title,” he said. Obilo will be looking to complete a double by guiding the men’s team also to the junior top-flight league. The team will fight out with 11 others countrywide for the sole ticket to next season’s KBF men’s junior league in the play-offs set for this weekend in Eldoret.
