What you need to know:

  • Only two women’s league matches lined up on a busy weekend of top action
  • The results came barely 24 hours after they narrowly beat Terrorists 67-62. Tigers, on the other hand, are enjoying a great run having beaten Blazers 86-67 in their last match.

Twenty-three matches are on the cards in this weekend’s fixtures of the men’s basketball Premier League, with the stand-out tie being between champions Co-operative Bank and leaders USIU-A Tigers.

Tigers, who are on top of the 16-team table with 49 points from 26 matches, will be out to deny second-placed Co-op Bank (44 points) a chance to bridge the gap when the two teams clash this evening from 6pm at Kasarani.

Tigers will return to the same court on Monday to tackle a much-improved Nairobi Aviation College. Last weekend, Co-op Bank suffered a set back in their bid to finish top in the regular season when Strathmore University shocked them 69-63.

ENJOYING GREAT RUN

The results came barely 24 hours after they narrowly beat Terrorists 67-62. Tigers, on the other hand, are enjoying a great run having beaten Blazers 86-67 in their last match.

Tigers will be led by the trio of Abel Nson, Oscar Muge and Kevin Kigotho, while the bankers, who face unpredictable Blades at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, will rely on Salim Ali, Joseph Ondinyo and Billy Oyombe in what should be a tough contest. Whichever team comes on top today will emerge as firm favourites for top spot in the regular season.

In another match today, Ulinzi Warriors, who humiliated Nakuru Club 102-70 last weekend, will be up against Mennonites at Nyayo Stadium today before tackling Terrorists tomorrow at Kasarani at 6pm.

Terrorists have lost their last two matches and pressure is on coach Eugene Genga to marshall his troops against Ulinzi.

Last weekend they lost 62-67 to Co-op Bank before falling 61-59 to fellow students Blades. Terrorists will play Strathmore today at 2pm.

In the two women’s fixtures of the weekend, former champions Eagle Wings will meet Mennonites at Nyayo on Saturday while Kenyatta University have a date with KCA-University at Kasarani on Monday.
