Unbeaten Kenya Ports Authority women welcome newcomers Zetech University, while their male counterparts host Zetech men on Saturday in National Classic basketball league matches at KPA Hall Makande in Mombasa.

Both KPA teams start as favourites against the students, who have had a good run in the matches played so far, despite featuring in the Kenya’s top league only for the first time.

Zetech women’s team in particular have been the surprise package in the league, beating regular campaigners, among them former champions United States International University and Eagle Wings, Kenyatta University Oryx, and Storms.

The team has only lost to current league champions Equity Bank, Co-operative Bank and Strathmore University.

Zetech women’s team coach Maurice Obilo’s decision to recruit youngsters fresh from school, among them Dee Dee Shisia and Ledisha Jelimo from Parklands Arya, Everlyne Atieno from Shimba Hills and Maurine Bosibori from St John’s Kaloleni and experienced point guard Linda Kimemia, seems to have given the team a much-needed boost.
