High-flying Maseno, champs Upper Hill lock horns in basketball final

High-flying Maseno on Friday reached the final in basketball at the secondary schools Term One national games after beating Kapenguria Boys 49-41 in the semi-finals.

Amos Aduke led Maseno with 17 points while Samuel Agok replied for Kapenguria with 13 points. The Paul Otula-coached Maseno will now take on defending champions Upper Hill from Metropolitan in an explosive final showdown today. Upper Hill sailed to the final after beating Coast region representatives St George’s 67-30.

Bunny Biny led Upper Hill with 12 points while Bosco Henry scored 14 for St George’s.

In girls’ category, Shimba Hills from Coast region stayed on course to retaining the title when they whitewashed St Mary’s Mabera from Lake region 96-13. Winnie Akinyi emerged the game’s top scorer with 28 points. St Brigid’s Girls from Nzoia region narrowly beat Parklands Arya from Metropolitan 57-50 to sail to the finals.

In girls’ hockey, East African champions Sinyolo Girls from Lake region beat Kapkulei from Mau region 2-0 in the first semi-final match, with Alice Aoko and Emelda sounding the boards.

In the second semi-final match, newcomers Trans Nzoia Mixed from Nzoia region qualified for the final after beating former champions Kerugoya from Highlands 2-1. Both sides were locked 1-1 at regular time. Nzoia scored their goal through Diana Awino while Kerugoya replied via Ruth Adhiambo before Rachel Atieno hit the target for Nzoia in the extra time.

In the boys’ semis, defending champions Narok Boys inched closer to retaining the title when they beat Kituro 2-0. In the second semi-final, St Anthony’s from Nzoia region beat Metropolitan’s Lenana 3-2 to reach the final.
