Upper Hill make light work of Lubiri

  • Taisir, formerly of Mombasa Baptist, led the scores for Lubiri with nine points while Rajula had 12 points for Upper Hill.
  • Friends School Kamusinga led Budo in all the four quarters, racing to a 16-14 advantage in the first quarter and 17-15 in the second. Kamusinga also won 17-16 and 22-16 in the third and fourth quarters respectively.

Upper Hill High School made clear their intentions of retaining the basketball title after a laboured 40-31 victory over last year’s finalists Lubiri Senior School from Uganda in a tough match as the Brookside East Africa Secondary School games entered the second day at Dar es Salaam National Stadium Monday.

In the tough match which could have gone either way, Innocent Ochare gave Lubiri an early lead, scoring the opening basket right from the tip off before Khamisi Taisir added the other for an early 4-0 lead.

LUBIRI DREW LEVEL

Lubiri’s Emmanuel Rajula and Issiah Ater however cancelled the scores with a brilliant post play and field goal to level the scores.

Upper Hill, under coach Ronnie Owino, stepped up the pace in the second quarter, taking a 15-10 lead which helped them to the end.

The Kenyan representatives went ahead to win the third quarter 10-08 but lost the last 04-06.

KAMUSINGA WON

Kenya’s other representatives in basketball, Friends School Kamusinga, also registered victory, beating Uganda’s Budo Senior School 69-56 in a closely-contested affair.

Friends School Kamusinga led Budo in all the four quarters, racing to a 16-14 advantage in the first quarter and 17-15 in the second. Kamusinga also won 17-16 and 22-16 in the third and fourth quarters respectively.

Keith Masinde led the scores for Kamusinga with 12 points while Samuel Ajak had six point for Budo.

Parklands Arya also made a flying start at the games beating Kizuka from Tanzania 50-42. Mercy Odima had 26 pts in this game which saw Parklands lead 16-06 and 24-18 at the break.

Other basketball matches saw Tanzania’s Makongo beat Uganda’s Budo 72-56 as Kamenge from Burundi lost to Burden Powel of Uganda 56-59 while Lycee Tanganyika from Rwanda beat Rumbek from South Sudan 40-14.
