Big boys Gor, Leopards on parade

AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia will be in action in the Kenyan Premier League Saturday as two of Kenya’s biggest clubs seek crucial league points against Chemelil Sugar and Top Fry All Stars respectively.

Coach James Nandwa has admitted he was under pressure when AFC Leopards registered their first win in the league against Sony Sugar last weekend, but the tactician insists that victory has made Ingwe even hungrier for points heading to today’s match at Nyayo Stadium.

And Nandwa acknowledges there is never a shortage of pressure in the league. “Pressure is always there. There was pressure to win that game (1-0 success against Sony Sugar on Wednesday), but there is also pressure to win tomorrow’s (today’s) game.

And I bet there will be pressure to win the other games so as a club we are not underrating any team,” he said yesterday. Having inflicted the season’s first loss on Sony Sugar, Leopards will today host league leaders Chemelil Sugar at Nyayo Stadium, seeking to extend their winning ways.

Chemelil are currently top of the log with 11 points from five matches and have not lost this season.

“Our greatest weakness is in finishing. Chemelil is a good team but if we can make use of our opportunities, we can defeat them,” he said.

Before that match, Tusker will take on Ulinzi Stars at the same venue. This will be the soldiers’ first game under newly-appointed coach Francis Onyiso.

Defending champions Gor Mahia will travel to Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium to play Top Fry All Stars in today’s other crucial match. K’Ogalo will need to tread carefully after failing to pich all three points against Thika United on Wednesday at City Stadium.

“We are not underestimating any team. Our immediate goal now is to come back from Nakuru with all three points,” Williamson said after their barren draw against Thika United.

Tomorrow, Western Stima will host Bandari, while Muhoroni play Mathare United. Sony will be at the Nyayo Stadium to play City Stars before Sofapaka take on KRA.
