What you need to know:

  • The afternoon will see all the 16 teams back in action after weekend’s Top Eight clashes, but it is AFC Leopards, who are still head-hunting for head coach, that will be in the limelight when they renew their rivalry with Mathare United in one of the Nyayo National Stadium double headers.
  • At Nairobi City Stadium, on-song Gor Mahia, who have made it three wins out of three, will look up to Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim for inspiration. Leopards have gone through a rough patch and divisions within its ranks have hindered efforts of settling on a new coach. Italian Emmanuele Filippini and Briton Trevor Morgan have been linked with the post but the club is yet to take a firm stand on the matter.

Deputy coach Juma Abdallah, who was recently given the boot by KCB, will therefore be on the touchline in his first match at “The Den” after his unveiling last Friday when he took over from club legend Mickey Weche.

Abdallah, a Brazilian/Dutch-trained tactician and reigning KPL Coach of the Year, is expected to ring changes in the first 11 that had been preferred by predecessor James Nandwa as he aims to get the Leopard on track.

PLAYING WELL

At Nairobi City Stadium, on-song Gor Mahia, who have made it three wins out of three, will look up to Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim for inspiration. The duo has formed a lethal partnership and their good understanding has been key to Gor’s resurgence. coach Bobby Williamson says he expects the partnership to blossom.

“They are playing well. They have been key for us and I am really pleased with Rama. He has been great in recent games and as I coach I want the most from them” the Scot said.

Victory over Muhoroni Youth, a side that has enjoyed a phenomenal run since Francis Baraza took charge seven weeks ago, would propel K’Ogalo to the summit of the standings should top-placed Tusker, who have 18 points, fail to beat Chemelil.

Across town in Kawangware, Nairobi City Stars, under Briton Tim Brytte, will tackle Kenya Revenue Authority as Western Stima confront Sony Sugar at the Mumias Complex.

Top Fry will entertain Kenya Commercial Bank at Afraha Stadium as Robert Matano’s Ulinzi Stars head to the coastal city of Mombasa in the hunt of their second win of the season when they battle Twahir Muhiddin’s Bandari.

Matano has won the diadem twice, with Sofapaka and Tusker. He told the club’s website that his boys have put the weekend 1-2 defeat to KCB behind them. “The loss (to KCB ) is behind us .We are now focusing on the league. We have improved in the way we play and we only need to be sharper in-front of goal to utilize the chances we get.” he said
