Co-op Bank, who are the men’s defending champions, will be in Nakuru to meet hosts Nakuru Club at Menengai High School Saturday afternoon.

Victory for the bankers, who beat Kenya Airports Authority (55-36) last weekend, will put them in a good position to grab top spot in the regular season.

The bankers have garnered 50 points from 24 wins and two loses.

On Sunday, Co-op Bank will face high-riding Lions at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium from 4pm. Lions led by Dennis ‘Dikembe’ Opiyo, Victor Ochieng and Ikapian Juma narrowly lost 48-49 to KPA in Mombasa last weekend.

Nakuru Club, have slim chances of qualifying for the play-offs since they lie a distant 12th on the 16-team standings with 36 points.

But with 10 wins and 16 loses, Nakuru are still capable of spoiling the party for Co-op Bank.

DAUNTING TASK

Focus will be on coach Carey Oketch’s credentials as Co-op Bank face a daunting task in the two tricky fixtures and they must work on their scoring if they are to topple Tigers from the top.

After losing 37-44 to USIU-A Flames last weekend, Co-op Bank women’s team will start as favourites to win against bottom-placed Mennonites.

Co-op Bank, who lie fourth with 34 points, are poised to dislodge Strathmore University from third spot with the experienced Grace Wanjiku, Caroline Ouma and Melisa Akinyi as their key players in today’s tie at Strathmore University.

Mennonites, have lost all their 28 matches and failed to show up for two fixtures leaving them bottom on the 12-team table standings with 16 points.

In the men’s Division One league matches, league leaders Zetech University are tipped to increase their points to 54 when they face Lakeside.

With 52 points, from 24 wins and four loses, Zetech only need four points to clinch the 2014 regular season title.

Umoja, who are their nearest challengers, will conclude their fixtures against Eldonets away in Eldoret today. Umoja, are second with 50 points and they can only reach a maximum 52 points.

On Saturday, Upper Hill must beat Barclays Bank at Strathmore to enhance their chances of reaching the play-offs. KPA men and women’s teams will host Ulinzi Warriors and Ulinzi Blades.
