Fiba-Africa Zone Five women’s basketball club champions Eagle Wings on Saturday broke USIU-A’s unbeaten run in the Premier League when they beat the students 50-43 at Nyayo Stadium.

In other matches played at the same venue, Sprite Storms beat Gladiators 60-29, KPA registered a 55-52 win over World Hope as Trailblazers torched Pirates 55-50 and Nairobi Aviation hit Africa Nazarene University 85-25.

In Friday night’s All Star matches, Nairobi men beat Mombasa 86-79 while East women’s team defeated West 60-50.

On Saturday, the Flames of USIU-A’s five-month unbeaten record ended when champions Eagle Wings beat the stubborn students 50-43 in a balanced first leg tie.

Eagle Wings had a bright start, with Rebecca Sarange and Lucy Machuma sinking three-pointers. The duo also teamed up with Silalei Shani to outscored Flames 19-4 in the first quarter.

Flames sent the champions into panic as they raced a 20-8 lead in the second quarter but Eagle Wings recovered to lead 27-24 at half-time.

In another women’s tie, Sprite Storms rose to second in the league after registering a 60-29 win over Gladiators.

On Friday night, Co-op Bank’s aggressive star Titus Musembi scored 16 points while Griffins Ligare of Thunder added 15 to lead the Nairobi All Star team to defeat Mombasa 86-79.

The winners led 47-36 at half-time, with Dan Okwiri of Mombasa emerging the top scorer with 23 points. In the women’s match, East team needed 11 points from Irene Makori to beat West 60-50.
