Former Kenya captain Obuya out of Namibia tour

The national cricket team will leave the country for Windhoek, Namibia, Monday without former national team captain, Collins Obuya, who is nursing a nagging shoulder injury.

Obuya Monday said he chose to remain behind and recover from the injury before Kenya returns to Windhoek to take part in a crucial  six-nation ICC World Cricket League Division Two that runs from January 17 to 24.

“I expect to be fully fit in a fortnight’s time. The forthcoming tournament means a lot to us and we have to finish in the top two positions next year and qualify for next season’s ICC World Cricket League Championship 50-over competition and the four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup,” Obuya said.

The team that will be captained by Rakep Patel (Kanbis) also includes Morris Ouma (Swamibapa), Alex  Obanda (Swamibapa), Nehemiah Odhiambo (Swamibapa), Shem Ngoche (Kongonis), James Ngoche (Swamibapa), Gurdeep Singh (Sikh Union), Elijah Otieno (Swamibapa),Nelson Odhiambo (Stray Lions), Emmanuel Budi (Stray Lions), Lucas Oluoch (Nairobi Gymkhana), Eugene Ochieng (Kongonis) Kavi Dosaja (Stray Lions) and Dhiren Gondaria (Kanbis).

The team will be in Namibia for a week where they will play a series of 50-over games against their hosts.
