Gor Mahia to seek revenge over APR in Cecafa tourney

Gor Mahia will be eyeing revenge against home side APR in Cecafa Club Championships in Rwanda next month.

Kenyan champions will also fight out in Group ‘B’ against Uganda’s Kampala City Council, Telecom and Flambeau from and Burundi. The draws were held at the Rwanda FA headquarters in Kigali Friday.

The three-week event also known as the Kagame Cup begins in Rwanda on August 8.

APR hammered Gor 6-0 on aggregate when the two teams last met in the Caf Confederation Cup in 2009 and it is this bad memory K’Ogallo will be looking to erase with revenge.

Defending champions Burundi’s Vital ‘O’ will face Sudanese giants El Merreikh, Police (Rwanda) and Somalia’s Benadeir in Group ‘C’.

In Group A, another home team Rayon Sport will face Tanzanian champions Yanga, Ethiopia’s Coffee, South Sudan’s Atlbara and Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magenda from Zanzibar.

“Everything is set and Rwanda is ready. I thank President Paul Kagame for his generosity,” Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said. The winner will pocket Sh2.7 million and the runners up Sh900,000.

Winners of this annual competition are set to pocket some Sh2.7 million in prize money, with the runners up and third placed team each claiming Sh 1.7 million and Sh 900,000 respectively.
