What you need to know:

  • The new deal will make him the club’s highest earner at Sh160,000 a month, up from Sh80,000. As a result, Owino will eclipse Ugandan import Godfrey Walusimbi who earns Sh150,000 a month.
  • Ugandan midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito, who left two weeks ago after failing to agree new terms with the club, was Gor’s highest earner last season with a monthly salary of Sh170,00, followed by compatriots Kizito (Sh150,000) and Dan Sserunkuma (Sh120,000).

Gor Mahia have offered defensive stalwart David ‘Calabar’ Owino an improved new two-year deal that if the player signs, will keep him at the club until June 2017.

Owino’s current contract will expire in June next year and Gor Mahia are keen to tie him down before his deal runs out. The club’s vice-captain has been a mainstay for the team in the last two seasons but has become unsettled by sustained interest from various foreign clubs.

Two weeks ago, he was heavily linked to a move to Tanzanian giants Simba but the deal fell through.

HIGHEST EARNER
According to our source within the club who requested anonymity, the two-time KPL defender of the year met club chairman Ambrose Rachier last week in a closed-door meeting where a new deal was offered to him and he reportedly agreed in principle to put pen to paper after the Christmas period.

The meeting took place shortly after the club’s National Executive had held a routine in-house meeting.

The new deal will make him the club’s highest earner at Sh160,000 a month, up from Sh80,000. As a result, Owino will eclipse Ugandan import Godfrey Walusimbi who earns Sh150,000 a month.
