KPA ambush poor soldiers in men’s volleyball play-offs

Kenya Ports Authority men’s volleyball team sent a warning shot to rivals in the national league play-offs, dismissing Kenya Defence Forces 3-0 sets at KPA Makande Hall in Mombasa on Friday.
In other matches played on Friday at the same venue, GSU men also saw off champions Kenya Prisons 3-1 sets.
Against KDF, the dockers, enjoying home support, needed one hour and 13 minutes to see off the soldiers, KPA’s James Ontere being the main destroyer.
KPA, under coach Sammy Masai, won the first set 25-12 and too the next sets 25-16,25-22. Masai praised his charges for putting up a spirited fight in thier quest for a maiden national league title.

“The players were on top of their game and home support also made things easier for us,” Masai said.
The second match of the day saw champions Kenya Prisons surrender a one-set lead to go down 1-3 sets against GSU, result coach Gedion Chenje attributed to late arrival by the soldiers in Mombasa.
Prisons went ahead 25-23, with James Mwambia and Richard Kipkurui running the show. GSU regrouped to win the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-16 respectively.
Prisons totally collapsed in the fourth quarter, and GSU’s Wesley Rono, David Kirwa, Benard Musumba and Domnic Rono presided over a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
