Kasongo’s fighters sweep titles at Wangila Memorial Cup

A former Kenya’s heavyweight boxer, Ahmed Omar Kasongo, who won gold medals in both the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada and 1995 All Africa Games in Harare, Zimbabwe is proving to be a successful boxing tactician.

Kasongo said: “We have won with seven pugilists, God willing I will have a full team of 10 boxers next year. I train the boys five days in a week, Monday to Friday.”

Thirteen teams took part in the championship. Kentrack were second behind OKSA, while Kayole took third position.

Kasongo Academy’s middleweight pugilist, Denzel Onyango, had the shortest bout of the tournament when he knocked out his opponent, Dan Oluoch (Kayole) with a left hook to the jaw in the first round of their scheduled three rounds final contest.

The other bout that failed to go full distance was in lightweight division that Stanley Ogutu (Kentrack), who was voted the best boxer of the tournament, knocked out Fredrick Omondi (Thailand) with a left uppercut in the second round.
