  • The results enabled Prisons to move joint top of the table standings, alongside arch rivals Kenya Pipeline with two legs of fixtures remaining.
  • GSU, KDF and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are placed in the remaining play-off positions after winning their fixtures as well.

Bigwigs Kenya Prisons emerged from last weekend's Kenya Volleyball Federation's (KVF) league matches in Eldama Ravine in pole position in both the men and women's table standings after posting impressive performances against their struggling opponents.

But there still remains a slim opportunity for other title hopefuls including Kenya Pipeline and Nairobi Water (women), alongside KDF and GSU (men) teams, to try upset the current odds on the log before the competition's play-offs phase set for November 30.

In the women's league, Prisons, who are the competition's defending champions, strolled past Nairobi Water, Talent Academy and Mount Kenya University (MKU) respectively, without losing a set.

STRAIGHT SETS VICTORY

David Lung'aho's team first humbled fast improving Nairobi Water 3-0 (28-26, 25-12 and 27-25), then thrashed Talent Academy 3-0 (25-6, 25-8 and 25-16), before outclassing MKU in similar sets of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-15.

The results enabled Prisons to move joint top of the table standings, alongside arch rivals Kenya Pipeline with two legs of fixtures remaining.

"We are getting towards the homestretch and this is always an exciting phase of the competition. Concentration is key if we are to achieve our ambition (of retaining the league title)" Kenya Prisons coach David Lung'aho said.

Both teams have garnered 18 points from seven outings thus far. Nairobi Water are ranked third three points adrift with Kenya Commercial Bank (12 points) occupying the final play-off position.

In other results from the women's league, Nairobi Water defeated Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-13) and Kenya Pipeline also registered a similar sets victory over KCB of 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 scores.

In the men's league, Prisons Kenya opened up a two point lead over GSU after gunning down Prisons Mombasa (25-19, 25-20, 25-20).

GSU, KDF and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are placed in the remaining play-off positions after winning their fixtures as well.
