The Boxing Association of Kenya over the weekend selected a team which will represent the country at the 11th All Africa Games set for Congo Brazzaville from September 4-19.

The Association also chose a youth side that will take part in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa from September 5 to 12 during the trials held at the Kaloleni Social Hall on Saturday.

The middle-weight bout between the Kenya Defence Forces’ Black-Moses Mathenge and Moses Ngugi (Central), was the only one that failed to go the whole distance.

Mathenge needed less than two minutes of the first round to beat his opponent, via a technical knockout.

When Ngugi’s tactician Peter Mwarangu, a former Kenya national team coach, saw that his boxer was not going to withstand Mathenge’s heavy punches, he threw in the towel to terminate the fight.

Mathenge had already connected well with a hard right to Ngugi’s head that had the referee give Ngugi a mandatory count of eight before his coach decided to terminate the bout.
