Kenya’s national girls’ beach volleyball team booked a ticket to Africa  beach Volleyball Championships without touching the ball after only two countries confirmed participation in the qualifiers planned for Entebbe, Uganda, last weekend.

Only hosts Uganda and Kenya confirmed participation for the qualifiers which were to feature junior and youth teams while Rwanda  and Burundi skipped the event.

“We got a phone call from Uganda indicating that we were the only participants apart from the hosts and since two teams were to qualify for the final, we cancelled our trip to Uganda  at the last minute,” said Ben Juma, the team’s leader of delegation.

The team will now continue training for next month’s continental championships as they seek a slot to the World championships.

The team’s coach, Kenya great Margaret Indakhala, is confident the team can clinch the African slot for the  World championships.

According to Juma , the teams  have been training in Nairobi under Indakhala  and has predicted they  will qualify for the World event.

“This is the best junior and youth team we have ever assembled  after  watching the players in  the local beach volleyball leagues  in Mombasa  and Nairobi  and believe they will carry Kenya’s flag  high by winning the qualifiers “,Juma said.
