Deputy Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo Thursday led members of the National Assembly in registering for this year’s edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon at the Parliament Buildings.

Midiwo was flanked by Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter, Bungoma MP Dan Wanyama and MP for Ndhiwa constituency Augustinho Neto who all said they will compete in this year’s race.

“We have always been committed to this event because of the worthy cause, and this year will not be different. I am very excited to be actively participating in the event this year, and I believe we will contribute significantly in helping more children regain their eye sight,” Keter said.

Keter, who will run in the half marathon, will be part of the 200 members of both Houses and their staff, who will compete in different categories of the marathon for Bunge FC. The MPs intend to raise Sh300, 000 to fund the “Seeing is Believing” initiative.

The marathon, which is in its 12th edition, will be held on October 26th and the Bunge Team will use it in preparation for the East Africa Parliamentary Games slated for December 7th-17th in Arusha, Tanzania.

Standard Chartered Chief Information Officer Peter Gitau said 10,000 runners have already registered with organisers targeting 25,000 participants.

There will be four categories for this year’ event: the full 42km, the half marathon, the 10km road race and the 5km fun run.
