The second leg match of the Kenyan Premiere League between champions Gor Mahia and Muhoroni Youth that was scheduled at Moi Stadium in Kisumu this Saturday may not be played at the venue after all.

Hosts Muhoroni Youth have requested KPL to take the match to Safaricom Stadium Kasarani ‘as a security measure.’ The clash will be played behind closed doors as a ban on Gor Mahia takes effect this Saturday.

According to Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala, the club requested for an alternative venue following incidents of insecurity that have been witnessed in the league recently.

“We thought it was wise to seek an alternative venue because of insecurity surrounding football at the moment,” said Adagala, adding that being the hosts, they are taking all aspects surrounding the match with caution.

There was fear that Gor Mahia fans would storm Moi Stadium in Kisumu. In such a scenario, Muhoroni, being the hosts, would be compelled to take responsibility for any eventuality.

Hosts Muhoroni lost 3-0 to Gor Mahia in their first leg match played at the City Stadium in Nairobi, with Shaban Kenga, Geoffrey Kizito and Eric Ochieng scoring.

On Tuesday, the local federation reversed a decision by the KPL to award Tusker FC points from their abandoned match against Muhoroni Youth on October 19 and instead awarded the sugar millers all three points and two goals.

Last week, KPL had awarded the match to Tusker on a technicality because as recorded in the match officials reports, Muhoroni Youth caused the abandonment by refusing to resume play in contravention of the rule on abandoned matches.
