Nairobi County swimming event draws huge entry

A total of 62 schools and clubs from Nairobi County have confirmed participation in this weekend’s Nairobi Swimming Association (Nasa) age group championships series ‘A’.

According to Nasa secretary Cardimore Avwonda, this is the third event on the congested Nasa calendar and will be held at Makini School.

The two-day event, which ends on Sunday, will splash off at 8am.

Speaking to the Daily Nation Sport, Avwonda said the gala has attracted new entrants who are expected to make their maiden appearance in the age group series.

“We expect a thrilling contest as we have experienced swimmers who will battle with upcoming swimmers who want to stamp their authority in the series,” said Avwonda.

“This time around we have a strong side capable of giving the big boys and girls a scare as we have upped our game through extensive training in the last three weeks,” said Braeside coach Isaac Mburu.

Loreto Valley Road School head coach Lydia Musei said she was upbeat that her squad would clinch top prizes in the weekend gala as the team has been under intensive training since they opened the school on September 2.

“Since we opened, we have been in full swing action. I have a team capable of causing havoc in the event,” said Musie.

Among the top competitors from Loreto who will be in action in the age 8-9 category include upcoming swimmer Lenise Wanakai with Tatyana Kiruthi, Katanu Kimanzi, Malindi Mwangi and Ruby Arasa in the over 10 years category.

Among the top clubs and schools which will be in action include hosts Makini School, Loreto Convent Mosongari, Hydra Swimming and Sports Club Academy, Kenton College, International School of Kenya (ISK), Aga Khan Academy, St Austin, Bubbles Swimming Club, Braeside School Peponi and CTA Horse Club.
