This year’s Kenya Volleyball Federation’s men’s and women’s league serve off at the Kamukunji grounds in Nyeri County on Friday with 20 teams competing for top honours in the two competitions which will last nine months.

Bigwigs Kenya Prisons, Kenya Commercial Bank and Kenya Pipeline are, once more, favourites to win the women’s league while Kenya Defence Forces, General Service Unit, Nairobi Water and KPA are expected to contest the men’s honours.

YOUTHFUL LINE-UP

“I expect the competition to be better than last season. Teams are better prepared and gave bolstered their squads with exciting youngsters,” Kenya Volleyball Federation vice-chairman Martin Makokha said on Thursday.

KCB have snapped up Lugulu Girls alumna Joyce Njeri into a youthful line-up that includes five other recruits.

KCB, who finished third last season under the guidance of coach John Khayinga, are aiming to challenge, or probably dethrone, bigwigs Prisons and Pipeline from their decade-long dominance.
