Kenya Police have lost their National Boxing League title to bitter rivals Kenya Defence Forces following a historic ruling by the game’s national governing body.

Boxing Association of Kenya stripped Police of the 2017 title following findings from an investigation on a disputed bout in the fifth and final leg.

BAK president John Kameta, at a press conference in Mombasa Monday said the team formed to investigate charges of irregularities during the leg at Uwanja wa Mbuzi in Mombasa found that declared win Maurice Ochieng of Kenya Police in fact lost to Dennis Mudhama of Kaloleni, Nairobi in a flyweight semi-final match.

The team reversed Ochieng’s win thus deducting a point from the “Chafua Chafua” fighter.

This is the first time in the history of amateur boxing in Kenya for a referee’s decision on the ring to be reversed in the board room.

BAK, Kenya Defence Forces, a section of referees and judges  and boxing fans  had bitterly protested the decision by the judges  to award Ochieng the semi-final bout against Mudhama which helped Kenya Police to collect 103 points against KDF’s 102.

“We saw because we were present and also received complaints after the mess in Kongowea and immediately  launched investigation. As result of this incident we decided that the committee re-tally points from all the bouts  from the first leg through to the fifth leg,” said Kameta.
