Pros return to action in Sunset golf tournament

Five of Kenya’s local professional golfers return to action on Friday, a week after last Friday’s KCB Golf Tour grand finale at Nyali Golf and Country Club, Mombasa.

The five, senior pro Elisha Kasuku, Charan Thethy, David Odhiambo, Jacob Okello and Ken Abuto, will compete in the second leg of Sunset Golfing Society tournament at the Royal Nairobi Club on Friday.

All the five pros made cut at the Nyali event to finish in the money list, with Nyanza-based Odhiambo having made the top 10 with a score of 297.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
In the first leg held at Nyali Golf and Country Club, former Mombasa Golf Club captain Sylvester Odhiambo topped the Sunset members’ list.

He will be among the players to watch on Friday. Others include Sunset chairman Barth Ragalo who is also the CEO  of Tysons limited, Royal chairman Odongo Mark Okeyo, Fly 540 Director Nixon Ooko, Development Bank of Kenya CEO Victor Kidiwa, Ben Handa, Jack Okuku, all from Royal.

Muthaiga’s Elijah Adul, Philip Kungu and Dan Owino will also compete. The list also has Nyanza Golf Club chairman Dan Ajulu and Noah Winja, also from Nyanza, as well as Colonel Ben Dawa from Kenya Air Force.

Leading the ladies’ challenge will be Royal lady captain Lucy Awiti who is the Sunset Golfing Society events coordinator, Pat Odima and Nyanza’s Rosemary Obara.

The first five members in men’s category will win prizes. There will also be two prizes each for Sunset lady members as well as guests.

Teeing off is set for 11.44am, with the team of Barth Ragalo, John Odhiambo, Kasuku and Lucy Awiti off on the first tee. Striking the ball first at the 10th will be the team of Nyanza Golf Club chairman Dan Ajulu, Railway’s Kepher Abonyo, two pros - Okello and Ken Abuto.

The course at Royal is in great shape at the moment and those coming from outside Nairobi will be in for a fun day.
