Records tumble at Oshwal Academy

  • Mombasa Academy Girls’ relay team broke the 39-year-old 4x100 meters freestyle record by clocking four minutes 47.56 seconds during the National Age-Groups, Open and Relays Swimming Championship at Oshwal Academy.
  • The team comprising Juhaina Islam Ali, Alisha Varia, Riva Karia na Samira Oberson erased the old record of 4:48.80 held by Hillcrest School set back on March 12, 1977 at Aga Khan swimming pool Nairobi.

Mombasa Academy Girls’ relay team broke the 39-year-old 4x100 meters freestyle record by clocking four minutes 47.56 seconds during the National Age-Groups, Open and Relays Swimming Championship at Oshwal Academy.

The team comprising Juhaina Islam Ali, Alisha Varia, Riva Karia na Samira Oberson erased the old record of 4:48.80 held by Hillcrest School set back on March 12, 1977 at Aga Khan swimming pool Nairobi.
Kenya’s swimming queen Emily Muteti, who broke three records at the weekend, set five national marks on Monday, two in the 100m freestyle and three others in 50m butterfly.

In the 100m freestyle, Muteti clocked a new time of 58.53, erasing her old all-comers record of 59.96 she set on May 30, last year and shattered the 16years and over record time of 58.58 belonged to Sylvia Brunlehner which she set on March 1, 2009 in Turkey.

Dolphin’s 17-year-old Ambaara Michaelo finished second in 1:01.16 with Sanne Kleinveld of ISM Moshi taking third position in 1:10.11.

Muteti also broke three national records in the 50m butterfly after returning 28.39, shattering her own all-comers, Open and 16 years and over record time of 28.44 she set on May 29, at Aga Khan Mombasa.

Two Dolphin SC swimmers, Catherine Mason and Ambaar Michael were second and third in 31.49 and 31.87, respectively.

In men’s category Daniel Christian of Bandari Swimming Club broke the 200m individual medley’s all-comers record in a new time of 2.11.46. The old record time of the event was  1:12.26 held by Jason Dunford set on August 28, 2006 at Aga Khan Mombasa.
