Newcomers Top Fry Nakuru continued with their poor run in the Tusker Premier League when they were beaten 2-1 by visiting Western Stima in a balanced match at Afraha Stadium yesterday.

Incidentally both coaches were guiding their teams in their first matches this season after their predecessors were shown the door due to poor results.

Western Stima’s Henry Omino (left) had the last laugh after taking over from Francis Baraza while visibly disappointed Peter Okidi, who took over from coach Oliver Page at Nakuru, had no words after referee Davies Omweno signalled the end of the match.

THEMSELVES TO BLAME

It was a fruitful weekend for the Western Kenya teams in the league when Chemelil Sugar collected maximum points at home after beating former champions and pre-match favourites Sofapaka 1-0 at Chemelil Complex.

Top Fry should blame themselves for losing their fourth match of the season a in a row and their second at home as they dominated the proceedings right from the first gong.

Erustus Mwaniki wasted a penalty awarded to Top Fry early on. Collins Net floated a well weighted cross in the 22nd minute which was firmly connected home by Fredrick Shimonyo to give Stima the lead. Mwaniki atoned for the missed penalty with a powerful shot for Top Fry’s equalizer.

After recess Top Fry stepped their attack and Dennis Sikhai saw his well taken 30 meters powerful volley blocked by Western Stima custodian for a fruitless corner.

On the opposite side Job Omuse saw his rising shot rattle the cross bar with Top Fry goalkeeper Evans Omondi well beaten.

“We lacked concentration in the pitch and this denied us three crucial points and this is something I will be working on before we play Chemelil next weekend,” said coach Peter Okidi.

An elated coach Henry Omino could not hide his joy after the match.”Its nice to harvest three points after being away from the technical bench and this is a sign of good things to come.”
